According to a recent report, although China’s Navy, Air Force, and Ground forces are among the strongest armies in the world, due to Taiwanese and US-made missiles, drones and radar, China fears that in the future the Taiwanese military can destroy China’s largest and the world’s second largest aircraft carrier. Recently, Taiwan revealed that its Qingtian (Chiang-Kong) hypersonic cruise missiles could possibly destroy Asia’s largest Chinese Fujian aircraft carrier. Recently, it has been reported that the Trump administration has signed a new defense pact worth $11.11 billion, due to which China has also warned the US that if Taiwan’s defense becomes strong with US weapons, then a Taiwan war could be very costly and risky for China alone. This missile represents Taiwan’s push to counterbalance China’s extensive missile arsenal (including hypersonic systems like the DF-17 and CJ-100), providing a credible counterstrike capability.

The Qingtian is a hypersonic land-attack cruise missile developed by Taiwan’s National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST). It is an advanced evolution of the earlier Yun Feng (雲峰, officially designated Ching Tien/擎天) program, which is already a ramjet-powered hypersonic missile with a range of 1,200–2,000 km and speeds up to Mach 6.

  • Speed: Exceeds Mach 6 (approximately 7,400 km/h or 4,600 mph), making it extremely difficult to detect and intercept due to its velocity and potential for high-altitude flight paths.
  • Range: Over 2,000 km (about 1,243 miles), enabling strikes on strategic targets deep in mainland China, potentially reaching areas north of Beijing.
  • Propulsion: Ramjet engine with solid rocket booster for initial acceleration, plus heat-resistant composite ceramic materials to withstand extreme temperatures.
  • Deployment: Designed for both fixed and mobile launchers, including Czech Tatra Force 12×12 trucks for off-road mobility or U.S.-style Oshkosh M983 platforms, enhancing survivability against preemptive attacks.
  • Role: Primarily a land-attack missile for deep-strike operations, serving as a deterrent in Taiwan’s asymmetric defense strategy against potential threats.

Why China fears Taiwan’s upcoming Hypersonic missiles, F-16V, and Defense System?

So in such a situation, China knows very well that Taiwan can also be capable of responding to every attack of China because, due to full involvement of the US, Taiwan’s defense will be very strong but Taiwan can still lose because Taiwan and the US together can completely destroy the top cities of China, like Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou. The recent US-Taiwan deal with HIMARS, Patriot Air Defense Systems, Harpoon Anti-Ship Missiles, Stinger Man-Portable Air-Defense Systems, and potential laser-guided weapons could help Taiwan compete with China.

In December 2025, the U.S. approved an unprecedented $11+ billion arms package (the largest ever), including:

  • 82 additional HIMARS launchers
  • 420 ATACMS missiles
  • 60 M109A7 self-propelled howitzers
  • Javelin/TOW missiles
  • Altius drones
  • Harpoon refurbishments

Deliveries of prior sales (e.g., ATACMS batches in early 2025) have accelerated under the Trump administration. These systems bolster Taiwan’s deterrence, but a large backlog of orders (e.g., F-16V fighters, MQ-9B drones) remains. U.S.-Taiwan military cooperation emphasizes training on these platforms to counter potential amphibious or aerial threats. Recently, it has promised to give 420 ATACMS missiles with 82 additional HIMARS launchers to Taiwan under an $11 billion package, which will be very damaging for China in the future. Additionally, the US fears that China will bomb Guam with ‘Guam Killer’ missiles called ‘DF-26’ that would bring major losses to the US-Taiwan arm supply chains. Taiwan and US are preparing to destroy the Chinese J-20, J35, Fujian Aircraft carrier, DF-27, DF-26, and DF17 missiles stockpiles to damage the Chinese goal of ground invasion of Taiwan. Overall research says, if china losses DF-27, Radar, Drones, fighter jets, and an aircraft carrier, that would backdown china’s plans to occupy on Taiwan.
