According to a recent report, the clash between STC, PLC, and Houthis has been going on for the last several years, in which the UAE continued its support to the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Saudi Arabia to the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), and Iran to the Houthis. Tensions between Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates over influence in Yemen have escalated dramatically in late December 2025, marking a significant rift between the two Gulf allies who previously cooperated in a coalition against the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen. The STC rejected these calls, consolidating control over much of the former South Yemen territory.
